Hello! Yet again time has passed and I haven't blogged for almost 6 months. This is just disgraceful. I now know why I don't keep a diary, and why the books and films are called "Bridget Jones' Diary", and not "Rebecca Lloyd's Diary"!
I thought that I would update you all (if there are any of you at all that is) about what I have been up to over the last 6 months. I'll start with April, where I was unemplyed for the whole month - to my joy this seems to have been a blessing in disguise because it was the sunniest and warmest month of 2011! And I've just turned the TV over to ITV2 to find Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason is on... *queue the ominous music*
Back to April... Ah yes, April was also my 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend! 4 years sounds like nothing compared to 50 years, but it's a huge deal to me. The happiest 4 years I've had so far! Don't worry, I won't go all mushy on you all!
May, I started my 6 month casual contract with the Welsh (then Assembly) Government in the print team. I was incredibly nervous to be going in to a job blindfolded - I'd had no experience in industry of working with print. But I had to start somewhere. And boy what a place to start! The people are lovely and were so welcoming and helpful. They made me feel at ease, and 4 months down the line I'm in my element. I've designed posters and all sorts of things that I never thought I was capable of designing. I even dappled in a bit of illustrating. And it was confirmed this week that my contract has been extended until March next year! I couldn't be happier. The people are more like my friends than my colleagues, it's a lot of fun working there, and I love the work that I do. It's not all sun and daisies, but the highs outweight the lows by miles. I have my fingers crossed already that my contract is extended past March!
Other than working and being happily in love, I really don't have much else to report. My life would seem boring to most, but I'm happier than I've ever been. I wake up, I dress up smart (which I love!), I go to work, I have a laugh and I learn and I do work that I enjoy. I come home, I eat, I do some housework, I relax and see my man, I go to bed and sleep, and the cycle begins all over again and again until Fridays, where I wake up the next day, do housework (which I genuinely enjoy doing - yes I'm sad and I consider myself to be a mini-Monica Geller), I do some shopping, play some Playstation and wait for my man to come home. Sundays are lazy days, or going-out-to-Cardiff days. I suffer the Monday morning blues, but once I get my head stuck in to work again, I'm as happy as Larry (whoever Larry is...) and my cycle begins all over again. I'm an average woman with an average life. But with a more than amazing man, amazing career, amazing friends and family, and I genuinely couldn't be happier...
On that note, I'll sign off until next time. It may be Christmas with my track record, or even Spring, so in the meantime, keep warm, stay happy and work hard! Don't let the winter blues get you down! Drink a cup of hot chocolate, snuggle up in front of the fire with your man/woman/dog/cat/hampster/snuggie/duvet (whatever floats your boat), and think about and appreciate everything in your life! :D Toodaloo!
Your happy friendly designer :)

Something to show what I've been up to...
I went to the Comic-con in Cardiff the other weekend (which was amazing by the way! Storm Troopers, Obi Wan and Darth Vader were the highlight I think!), and there were several sensational artists there. I used to draw a lot when I was younger, and that fizzled out a lot when I started university and then full time employment, so I made a point of sitting down and seeing if I still had the talent that I used to... so I drew Robocop! What do you think?
Long time, no... blog?
Hello everyone!
Well it's been about 3 months since I last blogged... Oops! But I do have a reason. You see, I've been a very busy bee! I updated my online portfolio and started up this blog, then started working full time at the Welsh Assembly Government as a contracted Junior Web Designer. I know, I still can't believe it myself! And what an experience it's been. I've designed a Twibbon which was a big success, and I've been working on a project that includes a redesign and build of an outdated existing website. It's been very exciting and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I feel like my design skills have blossomed by the day! And my CSS skills seem to have improved! All I need now is to sit down and learn CSS3 and HTML5... and PHP... I'll have to substitute TV shows and relaxing for learing and advancing I think!
On a serious note, my contract will unfortunately be ending on March 31st. So I'm out looking for another position to help me advance even more as a designer. Any junior graphic designer and web designer out there knows how difficult this is at the moment. Nowhere seems to be hiring! And if they are, I can guarantee I'll need to battle through 100s of applicants to be chosen. But that's the world we live in at the moment, and I'm doing my best to be the best designer that I can be so that I can advance and be noticed. So I've been updating and adjusting my portfolio (http://www.rebecca-lloyd.co.uk), which I still haven't completely finished, but I'm getting there. Please let me know what you think! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Other than working and improving my website, I haven't much more to report on the design front. If you know someone who needs design work doing, send them my way. I'm looking to do some jobs on the side.
And I will be making more of an effort to blog from now on. I don't want to disappoint my readers! Hehe!
Until next time everyone, have fun!!
